News From Your Director

October 16, 2017

Dear Parents & Students,

What a roller coaster ride we had this weekend! After a disappointing run in Prelims, we still managed to sneak in to Finals for a chance to perform again. This time, the students were “on” and delivered their best performance to date, moving up to 8th place. Really proud of the effort given to get tough and turn things around!

Special thanks to all adults involved in keeping this group running, from parents who help with water to chaperones to pit crew and all the many others who we could not do with out. THANK YOU!!!

This week:

Wednesday – Early Release Day, no rehearsal

Friday – End of 1st 9-Week Grading Period
o Students may gain or lose eligibility status at this check
o All changes in eligibility status occur one week after the check, so gaining or losing eligibility will take effect a week from Friday (October 27)

Friday – Football vs. Clemens and 8th Grade Band Night

Saturday – UIL Marching Contest at Heroes Stadium (itinerary attached)
o Call time for students in NOON at Ranger Stadium
     o Ranger Band performs at 4:30 P.M.
o Arrival back at SVHS will be approximately 7:45 P.M.

**UIL Marching Contest will be the most important contest of the season for us. At this contest, three judges will compare our performance to a STANDARD set forth by the University Interscholastic League. There will be no ranking of bands at this contest, but we will receive a rating (1 being the best, 5 being the worst) from each judge. At this contest, we will be judged based on music and marching only, with a slightly greater emphasis on music. We are very much looking forward to taking things to greater heights this week in preparation for this big day, and we would love to see (hear) y’all cheering the band on this Saturday!!
