News From Your Director

Dear Smithson Valley Parents and Students,

Thank you all so very much for the fantastic gift baskets we received yesterday during rehearsal. It was a great surprise and so very much appreciated!

I would like to thank all of you for all of your tireless work during this marching season. The parental support for this program this fall has been by far the best its been in the 15 years I have been associated with this program. We have such a football dominated crowd at games ( I like football too) but it is really really nice to hear all of the support from all of you as we prepare to go on the field for halftime. I can remember many games and contests where that doesn't happen. I can't tell you how excited our kids were coming off of the field at USSBA finals after hearing such a positive crowd reaction from their performance. It really makes a huge difference in how they play and execute. The send off and hearing the excited chatter in the stands at Area contest really helps set a tone for us.

For those of you who were present with us most of the season I hope you had a great appreciation for how the show grew and developed over time, that is always my favorite part of this activity. I hope that in the future we can continue to grow in that department. I was blown away by the chanting of the entire crowd up at Round Rock for their band. They have a great football team as well obviously but it was really neat to see how everyone there was solidly behind all of their groups.

As you know our kids put in thousands of hours of work during their band careers and learn things that go so far beyond gaining a solid music education (sometimes the hard way ;) and I thank you for taking them to and from rehearsal and being there for games and contests. Mr. Patton, Mr. Bravi and those associated with our forrest, we have no way to thank you enough for your efforts there! Thank you Mrs. Millard and her crew for making sure we are fed every week and def. the Gorden's for all of their work on Silent Auction and other events throughout the year. Mrs. Snowden, Mrs. Millard and the many many people that were integral in putting together the baskets...Thank you!!. It is a pleasure (most days) to be able to work with all of you on a daily basis and I can't wait to see what this program is going to do in the future! See you all at the Christmas Concert!
