News From Your Director

November 5, 2015

Dear Parents and Students,

I would like to thank ALL of you for your flexibility with last week’s game! It has been a little crazy lately with the weather and we’re getting ready for some more as we speak!

We have our last home game tomorrow, and the Ranger Band will be performing at halftime (they will be making up the Homecoming Court announcements at the dance on Saturday).

Smithson Valley is, as of last week’s game, definitely in the first round of play-off football! The first play-off game will take place on November 12, 13, or 14. We do not generally know a specific date, time, or location until the weekend before the game. The band performs at all play-off games (as long as we are still in them) and student attendance is still a graded requirement. Please note that football play-offs happen each weekend, culminating in the championship game on December 19th, and please email any conflicts (once the date/time of the game has been released) to Mr. Vereen at dain.vereen@comalisd.org. Thanks!

Congratulations to the PERCUSSION SECTION for bringing in the most money for their section basket at the Fajita Dinner/Silent Auction!!!! They will be receiving a pizza party during 7th period TODAY!! Way to go!!

District Band auditions are coming up on November 19th at Johnson High School. Those wishing to participate should have already turned in an entry form along with the $10 entry fee. I can accept late entries through next Wednesday, but there is a late fee attached by Region 12, bringing the cost up to $20. Recordings of the audition music for every instrument by Texas Tech School of Music faculty, along with masterclass recordings, have been uploaded to Charms. Students may gain access by using the school code: smithsonvalleyhsb and the password is their student ID# (try with AND without zeros at the beginning). Students may also obtain these files by bringing Mr. Boening a “thumb drive.”

Have a Great Ranger Day!!
