Happy Holidays Ranger Band Parents!
We are excited to invite you to come celebrate the holiday season with us at our annual holiday concert on Tuesday December 15th at 6:30 in the SVHS Auditorium.
One of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills(TEKS), which is the state mandated curriculum for our course, states that students exhibit informed concert etiquette as a performer and an audience member. Many of our students have never had the opportunity to attend formal concert, in which there are several behavioral norms that must be followed and adhered to. We will cover all of these with the students in class. It is our hope that after they learn these skills that they might attend a concert of a major symphony orchestra or opera and be informed audience members. We also feel that it is important that our students hear all of the performing groups within our program instead of just the one they are participating in. Our students will get the opportunity to assess the other ensembles in our program based on what they have learned throughout the semester and support their friends who have also worked tirelessly to prepare a great performance. With that in mind we have set up our concert to be as close to a formal concert as possible.
We are asking that all of our students arrive with their instrument (case in band hall) and music to the auditorium at 6:15 and sit with their respective ensemble in the front of the auditorium and listen to the concert until it is their time to perform. In order for this to work we are having to forgo a formal warm up for this concert for each group (a sacrifice we think is worth it). Please do not leave or take your student until the entire concert is over. The auditorium will be quite full so arrive early for preferred seating and please fill all of the way in towards the middle of sections so everyone has a chance for a seat. We will try to provide some additional seating on the sides to accommodate any overflow.
It is going to be great for our kids to play in front of so many people in a packed house and hopefully very entertaining for our audience members to hear all facets of our band program. We look forward to seeing you there and thank you so much for your support of the Ranger Band!
