Dear Parents & Students,
I hope that everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving and feels recharged enough to push through to the Holiday Break! As we approach that time, I just wanted to make everyone aware of several items:
★ All marching uniforms should have been taken home to wash (including gauntlets) and need to be hanging back on the racks in the band hall by Monday.
★ The Smithson Valley Fine Arts Department is putting on a production of Bye Bye Birdie this Thursday, Friday, & Saturday evenings at 7:30 P.M. in the SVHS Auditorium. Tickets are $8 and may be purchased at the door. This event involves quite a few band students (some in the cast, and many more in the “pit orchestra” providing the music). It will be an outstanding show, and I encourage you all to come out if you are free!
★ The annual Jingle Bell 5k, sponsored by Comal ISD and benefiting St. Jude’s Ranch will be taking place next Saturday (December 10th) at 8 A.M. in Gruene. Students are encouraged to volunteer for a pep band that will play at the midpoint of the race (sign up on Mr. Boening’s door). Service hours and breakfast tacos will be provided. Adults are encouraged to walk or run in the 5k and contribute to a very worthy cause.
★ Our annual Holiday Concert will take place on Tuesday, December 13th at 6:30 P.M. in the SVHS Auditorium. The concert will begin with the Jazz Band, followed by the 9th Grade Band, Symphonic Band II, Symphonic Band I, and Wind Ensemble. Dress for the concert will be the concert uniform checked out to students earlier in the year.
Several groups will need to meet outside the school day to put the wind and percussion parts together since all percussionists currently meet during 7th period:
· The 9th Grade Band will meet at 7:30 A.M. on Friday, Dec. 9th and Tuesday, Dec. 13th.
· Symphonic Band I (Vereen) will meet at 4:15 P.M. on Tuesday, Dec. 6th, Thursday, Dec. 8th & Monday, Dec. 12th.
· The Wind Ensemble (Boening) will meet at 7:30 A.M. on Thursday, Dec. 8th and Monday, Dec. 12th.
Thanks, and have a wonderful week!
