Dear Parents & Students,
It's hard to believe it's already February! And, while things have settled down a bit since Marching Season ended, I wanted to draw your attention to several things.
1.) Congratulations to Eunice Chung, Josh Martinez, Allison Millard, and Garrett Snowden for advancing to the AREA level of competition in the Texas Music Educators Association All-State process. The level of competition in our Region and Area is VERY high, and we're very proud of their hard work!
2.) Congratulations to Garrett Snowden for being selected as a Texas Music Educators Association All-State Musician. This is the third year in a row that Garrett has made All-State, and he will compete once more next Wednesday for placement in a specific All-State ensemble (Concert Band, Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphonic Band, or Symphony Orchestra). Good luck, Garrett!
3.) The SVHS Colorguard came home with FIRST PLACE from a TECA Regional Winterguard Competion this past Saturday. Way to go Guard! And good luck at your upcoming WGI Regional in Houston this coming Saturday!
4.) Our annual Midwinter Concert is this coming Tuesday (February 7) at 6:30 P.M. in the SVHS Auditorium. The Jazz Band will perform first, followed by Symphonic Band III (approx. 6:45), Symphonic Band II (approx. 7:15), Symphonic Band I (approx. 7:45), and the Wind Ensemble (approx. 8:15). The students have put in some really outstanding work and we can't wait to see you all there!
5.) The chaperone positions for the Spring Break Orlando trip have been filled and those selected have been notified. We will be having a TRIP MEETING on Tuesday, February 28th at 6:30 P.M. in the SVHS Cafeteria. We will be going over many details concerning the trip (including how to handle prescription medications) at this meeting and all students who are going to Orlando should plan to attend along with one parent. In the meantime, please make sure that any student who will be 18 years of age at the time of the trip (including the return flight) has a government issued ID (required to board the plane).
Thanks! Have a Great Ranger Day!
