News From Your Director

March 25, 2015

Dear Parents and Students,

First, for those involved with the New York trip, thanks so much for your contribution to a VERY smooth trip. A great time was had by all, and the students could not have been better. I received compliments constantly about their polite behavior and good attitude :)

Second, the 'Ranger Regiment' (SV's competitive winter drumline) won the gold medal in Scholastic AA with a 1st place finish at the TECA Indoor Percussion State Championships, Saturday, March 21st at South San High School’s Ron Durbon Athletic Center. The win caps an outstanding season comprised of one 2nd place & three 1st place finishes! Congratulations on a job well done!!

Third, the SVHS Winterguard will compete this Saturday at the TECA Winterguard State Championships, held at Canyon High School. They perform at 7:32 P.M., and if you haven't had the opportunity to see them yet this season, I encourage you all to check it out. They have had an incredibly successful season, previously making the finals of a WGI Regional event for the first time in the group's history! Good luck, ladies!

Next, it has been a gargantuan task, but we finally began checking out concert uniforms yesterday. I would like to publicly thank Dena Pauletti, Sandi Waclawczyk and Melanie Edmonson who, along with help from the student quartermasters have not only unpacked, numbered, organized and are fitting the new concert uniforms, but also unpacked and organized and fit all the new marching uniforms this past summer. They have put in countless hours and are VERY APPRECIATED!! Along those lines, parents, your students should be coming home with a concert dress (ladies) or tuxedo (gentlemen) at some point this week. Along with that comes a set of instructions on alterations and care. I have attached these instructions to this email "just in case" :) Please note, that if alterations are necessary and cannot be taken care of before our upcoming concert on Tuesday, we can get by with pinning to get us through the concert.

Finally, as mentioned in the last paragraph, our pre-UIL concert is this coming Tuesday in the SVHS auditorium, schedule follows:

Symphonic Band III - 6:30
Symphonic Band II - 7:00
Symphonic Band I - 7:30
Wind Ensemble - 8:00

The students have all been working exceptionally hard on this music and we all look forward to parents getting to hear their progress.

Thanks, and have a great week!!
