Dear Parents & Students,
As we approach the end of the school year, I would like to bring a few things to your attention.
First, to share some successes:
The SVHS Winterguard was named State Champion at the Texas Educational Colorguard Association Contest on April 2nd! Way to go Color Guard!!!!
The Ranger Band sent FOUR concert bands to UIL Concert & Sightreading Contest for the first time in the school’s history. The Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band I, and Symphonic Band II all earned a 1st Division (Superior) on stage and a 1st Division in sightreading. Symphonic Band III earned a 2nd Division (Excellent) on stage and a 2nd Division in sightreading. What a wonderful showing, reflecting hours and hours of hard work by the students!
The top two bands from Smithson Valley MS and the top two bands from Spring Branch MS all earned 1st Division ratings in both Concert and Sightreading last week. We’re very proud of their students and excited by the bright future of the Ranger Band!
The UIL Marching Show for next season has been announced!! The title of the show will be “X”Treme Deception and will center around the music of Beethoven. We will be working on the music in class as soon as the Spring Concert is behind us.
Drum Majors for next season were selected by audition yesterday afternoon. The process these students go through is extensive and we are very proud of ALL of the students who auditioned. Next year’s Drum Majors are (in alphabetical order): Shelby Gorden, Ann Mark, and Garrett Snowden. Congratulations guys!
And now a few points of information:
**Reminder that the deadline for registering for next year’s Spring Trip to Orlando is this Sunday, May 1st.
After announcing names in class for the past week+, we still have roughly twenty students who failed to clean their marching uniforms before turning them in last semester. We also still have about twenty-five students who have not turned in their uniform at all, or turned in someone else’s pants or jacket, or are missing a part of their uniform. We are extending the deadline to take care of these items to May 4th in order to enlist the help of parents. Parents, please ask your student if they are on either of these lists (they should know). After May 4th, their names will be turned over to the Front Office to be put on the “obligations list” for either a cleaning fee or replacement cost. Thanks for your help.
A full calendar for next Fall will be coming out very soon, but we will be holding our annual Registration Day on Saturday, July 30th and starting regular Summer Band Camp on Monday, August 1st. The schedule will remain consistent with last year’s summer schedule.
We are making a change to the rehearsal schedule once school begins next year: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays we will rehearse from 4:15-5:45. Tuesdays will remain at Ranger Stadium from 5:00-8:00. We are striving for more consistency throughout next year’s competition season, as well as allowing for students to ride the “late bus” without missing instruction, and ending unproductive 6:30AM rehearsals in the dark.
Thanks, and have a Great Ranger Weekend!
