News From Your Director

August 12, 2016

Dear Parents & Students,

Camp is going by so quickly! Parents, you will be amazed to see and hear the progress the Ranger Band has made in such a short time… they have learned twenty-two individual pieces of music, as well as an entire half-time routine from start to finish! The students have also enjoyed “letting their hair down” at the Band Olympics and pool party this week, with the security guard at the Vintage Oaks facility commenting that he had never seen the place so clean as when we left it to go home. Way to show your class, Ranger Band! Also, BIG thanks to Leah Grogett for hosting us at Vintage Oaks, as well as Pam Millard, the Grilling Crew, and all other parents who helped serve for supplying food and drink for the event!

**We are making a change to the calendar in order to accommodate the ever changing landscape of marching competitions. We will now be attending a marching competition on Saturday, October 1st (not on the original calendar). We will NOT be attending a competition on Saturday, October 8th. Those looking to take the SAT this Fall, please utilize the November 5th or December 3rd dates.

Next week the schedule get’s a little convoluted with all of the back-to-school professional development sessions the directors are required to attend. That professional development schedule was changed recently to include an afternoon meeting for us, so we will have a change* to the published rehearsal calendar. Next week is as follows:

Monday: Rehearsal will be from 7am-11am ONLY*, with no afternoon rehearsal
Tuesday: Students will report to the band pad at 4pm for rehearsal, followed by the Meet the Band Night performance.
Wednesday: Rehearsal from 7am-11am
Thursday: Rehearsal from 7am-11am
Friday: Rehearsal from 7am-1pm (picture day… order forms will come home next week)
**Students should plan on going to registration after our rehearsals next week.
***Reminder that should you (or your student) need to miss rehearsal for any reason, please be sure to email Mr. Vereen at dain.vereen@comalisd.org.

Meet the Band Night is next Tuesday! Parents, please plan on attending to hear the first performance from the 2016 Ranger Band, including selections from this year’s UIL Show, X-Treme Deception. If you did not pre-purchase ticket for a meal, they will be available for $7 on-site while supplies last J. This is a GREAT opportunity to meet other band parents and get plugged in to the Booster Club. We absolutely could not do what we do without the support we get from this amazing group of parents!

Speaking of the Booster Club, the annual Fajita Dinner & Silent Auction is coming up more quickly than anyone realizes. This single event raises a very large portion of the operating budget for the Booster Club, but only with the help of ALL of our members pitching in to find items for the auction. The following is from Mr. & Mrs. Gorden:

2016 Silent and Live Auction

The Smithson Valley Ranger Band Silent Auction is Friday, September 30, 2016. This fundraising event is a fun and exciting evening that generates substantial funds to support the Ranger Band, and we need every family to participate!

How to participate:
Each family member is asked to donate at least one new item of value. Examples are products or services from local businesses, your company donation, or any new item of value.

Past successful item:
Jewelry, beauty products, food gift cards, novelty items, vacation trips, auto service certificates, gift baskets, furniture, musical items, or any unique item of value. Items of significant value will be part of the LIVE Auction!

For questions about the auction, please contact Michele or Robert Gorden at 210-771-8247 or rmgorden@gvtc.com.

Thank you all so much for your continued involvement and/or support of this group. The Ranger Band is a very special family and one I am very proud to be a part of! Have a great Ranger Weekend!
