News From Your Director

August 31, 2016

Dear Parents & Students,

What a bummer we did not get the opportunity to perform last week! That was first for me, having a game cancelled without being rescheduled. Normally we have a delay and go back out to finish the game (they go pretty late sometimes), or they are rescheduled (New Braunfels game last year was rescheduled to Saturday). Oh, well… onward to this Friday!

Quick itinerary for Friday’s game vs. Austin Anderson:

    · Students report to the band hall when the bell rings to start 6th period
    · 2:00pm Tubas and percussion will load their instruments on the trailer
    · 2:00pm All students will change into their summer uniform
    · 3:00pm Students will board charter buses on the band pad, putting instruments under the bus
      (except for percussion and tubas)
    · 3:30pm Depart for Home Park Stadium in Austin
    · 7:30pm Kick-Off
    · 11:30pm Return to SVHS

**Those who purchased pre-game meals will be served a “box meal” to eat on the bus. All others should bring a meal from home to eat on the bus. Snacks are also permitted on the bus.

Parking/Pick-Up
Parents, please do not park or pick up students behind the band hall following rehearsals or performances. We generally have a large volume of equipment to transport, and need that area to be free from traffic. Thanks!

Student travel to and from performances
Students are expected to travel with the band to and from performances. From time to time, circumstances arise that necessitate a parent picking up their student from a performance. Due to the large number of students participating with our group, I ask that, for everyone’s safety, this practice be limited to special circumstances that have been addressed with a director prior to the event. Once it has been cleared by a director, please fill out the “Parent Pick-Up” form and turn it in to a director prior to the event. It becomes very difficult to account for every student when this procedure is not followed, and we really appreciate your cooperation.

Fajita Dinner & Silent Auction
Parents: we are currently accepting items for the Silent Auction. Our goal is at least one item from each band family. There is no such thing as “too small an item,” as they can be combined into larger packages for the auction. This is the primary fundraiser that goes to the booster budget each year… money that goes directly back into the band program and your students. WE NEED YOUR HELP! The event is quickly approaching, and our volunteers need time to process the items prior to September 30th. Thank you!

Rehearsals next week
Next Monday (September 5th) is Labor Day and is a student/staff holiday. We will not have band rehearsal after school. Next Wednseday (September 7th) is an early release day for Comal ISD and we will not have band rehearsal after school. In order to gain back a little of that lost time, you will notice on the calendar that Thursday’s rehearsal next week goes until 7pm. Thanks students and parents for planning ahead to make this rehearsal possible, we really can't afford to lose that much time at this stage of the game :)

Thanks, and Have a Great Ranger Day!
