News From Your Director

September 12, 2016

Dear Parents & Students,

The Ranger Football Team suffered a tough loss last Friday, but the Ranger Band had a GREAT night! We unveiled the 1st half of the UIL show for the first time, and the students performed with a very high level of focus and commitment, in spite of our abbreviated rehearsal schedule last week. Way to go Band!!

We’re back at home this Friday, playing Steele. Due to the expected crowds, the Ranger Band and Silver Spurs will be sitting in the end zone stands, but we will be wearing “real” uniforms this Friday for the first time this season. We will also be presenting letter jackets to those who have earned them in the Cafeteria at approximately 5:45. Parents are welcome to attend.

This Saturday is the Bulverde Jubilee Parade, as well as All-Region Jazz Auditions. Those who are not participating in the jazz auditions will need to meet in Bulverde, with their instruments and in their summer uniform at 9:30 (including camelbaks), and the parade begins at 11:00. I have attached a map detailing where the band will assemble and areas to park. This is a graded performance, so please communicate any absences due to illness to dain.vereen@comalsid.org just like any other performance. Parents, this is a VERY short parade, but if you’ve not been before, there are lots of food and craft vendors set up and it’s a pretty good time! The students will be released to go home around 11:45.

Fajita Dinner & silent Auction:

We have only received donations from about 10% of band families. Please send auction items in as soon as possible, as things get very hectic the week right before. Our goal is to have everything in by September 16th. Section Leaders… section baskets are also due on the 16th. Thanks in advance for your help in making this such a successful event again!

We are not asking for donations of food items for the Fajita Dinner this year. Alternatively, we are asking each student to bring in a 12 pack of soda or water prior to the event. Each section is assigned different things as follows:

        Colorguard – Orange Soda
        Flutes – Bottled Water
Clarinets – Dr. Pepper or Sprite
        Saxes/Low Reeds– Coke or Pepsi
        Trumpets – Bottled Water
        Horns – Sprite or 7-Up
        Trombones – Coke or Pepsi
        Baritones – Dr. Pepper
Tubas – Mountain Dew or Root Beer
Percussion – Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi

Thanks, and have a Great Ranger Day!
