News From Your Director

Dear Parents & Students,

The outpouring of support for the Ranger Band this past weekend in the form of parent volunteers, chaperones, pit crew, and more was incredible. I am humbled to have the opportunity to work alongside so many outstanding students, parents, and staff. A special thanks goes out to our volunteer coordinators and those who have worked on trees. The feedback from the visual judges on Saturday was very positive, and the four separate shifts of parent chaperones were amazing! Even more amazing was the attitude of the students throughout… There is no doubt it was a tough weekend, but they came through like champs and gave their best. We are very proud of how they represented themselves and this organization at the multiple events they were a part of!

Coming up this week:
o Friday at NOON – first UIL Eligibility Grade Check.
o Friday from 6pm to 9pm – FAJITA DINNER AND SILENT AUCTION!
o Saturday – Rough Rider Marching Contest (6 P.M. performance time)

Grade Check – If students are failing a class as of noon this Friday, they will become ineligible to participate in performances with the band beginning at 4:00pm on the following Friday (October 7th). Turning in late work on Friday the 30th will be too late for it to be graded and entered by noon that day. Realistically, turning in late work on Thursday will likely be too late, as well. That just leaves a few days to take care of business. **All students will be eligible to perform this coming Saturday… no one will lose eligibility until Friday Oct. 7th.

Fajita Dinner & Silent Auction – If you are new to our program, this event is a BIG DEAL! By itself, the dinner and auction fund a majority of the booster club budget, but it is also great food and a really fun time, culminating in a performance by the Ranger Band. The last chance to turn in auction items is tomorrow evening after rehearsal. All items should be given to one of the directors or left in the band office. Can’t wait to see y’all there! Be sure to put a bid on the ‘Dinner for Four’ being cooked and hosted by yours truly!

Rough Rider Marching Contest – I have attached an itinerary for this weekend’s contest, but the short version is: Students meet on the field at Ranger Stadium at 1:00pm, we perform at Heroes Stadium (Northeast ISD) at 6:00pm (we are last), and we should be arriving back at SVHS by about 8:15pm. I sent out a notification back on August 12th about this change to the printed calendar that was mailed out in June, but in case you missed it, syncing the online calendar is the way to go. We will NOT have any events the following Saturday (Oct. 8th).

Finally, we are still in need of parents willing to help finish out our “forrest.” We are 100% on tree carts, but only about 50% on actual trees. I believe Mr. Bravi cut out and painted enough to get us to 75% once they are assembled, but we still need to cut out, paint and assemble 6 to 8 more after that. We received quite a bit of positive feedback from judges on what we had out there so far on Saturday, but really need the rest to complete the effect. Please contact Scott Patton at if you are available to trace, cut, paint, and/or screw on hinges. Thanks Ranger Band Family!!
